I’m a writer and I’ve been blogging off and on here for several years now.
In trying to find the right angle I’ve tried a number of approaches. For the last year, I’ve focused on social media, even though so many others are doing this, and doing it well.
I like much of what Chris Brogan writes, for instance. But I have no idea how he can maintain his prolific Twitter and blog output and still do anything else productive.
And I like Penelope’s Trunk’s style, but sometimes she discloses a little too much.
Both of them, and many others, are generating constant streams of advice and self promotion. While I know important things about how to communicate online, I have no desire to be a guru, so I’ll continue to be myself.
And who’s that, you ask?
I’m a thoughtful writer, trained as a journalist, experienced as a marketer, and skilled at assembling the right words in the right order to connect with people and move them to action.
I prefer to immerse myself in big projects, so I take on only a few clients at a time, and give them the benefit of my focused attention.
I’ve worked in many genres, including:
- Direct mail
- Web pages
- Blogging and micro-blogging (Twitter)
- Press releases
- Search Engine Optimization (SEO)
- Brochures
- Podcasting
- Video
That’s what I do, beside running, reading and spending time with my family (and putting up occasional blog posts).
